How do we test the Spirits

We check for the fruit of the Spirit... do the words and actions match love, joy, peace, kindness, patience, etc... do they give credit to God?

Versus... do the words spoken produce fear, anxiety, anger, pride, self-righteousness, etc... insisting they saved themselves by making the right choice.

The latter sounds right to our human thinking and is preached in many many churches... yet people can not see just how different it is from the heart of God.

Just as when the disciples said to Jesus...

Luke 9:54-56
54And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?

55But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

56For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

Religion tells us... Hell yeah, fry them suckers... but the heart of God, that true Spirit within tells us... No, pray for them and love them... they are ignorant and don't know any better.

Thanks, Dave. If people really believe in hell AND love, then they should be fasting and crying daily for "lost souls" it should devastate them deeply when their loved ones die before saying the "sinners prayer". They should be begging people to "repent" but they don't. Many feel no remorse as they walk away from those who reject their message, they wipe the dust from their feet as if now the person can and go to hell..they don't care as long as they "informed them of hell" they now feel no fault at all if they go to hell. Their teaching tells them if they at least TELL them, then their blood won't be on their hands. The fear drives them to TELL, but no love to move them to grieve as they depart their doorsteps. I used to question my heart... why..if hell is so real..is it so hard for me to spend every waking moment knocking on doors to warn people? Shouldn't we be talking to our neighbors DAILY, praying DAILY, and crying over them rejecting that message? Or maybe our inward hearts know there's something wrong with this picture.
